We have some great news to share! On April 27, 2018, between 10:00am and 12:30pm, the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures® (BSBF) van will visit Healthy Families Pasco-Hernando at the Bene’s Career Academy in Brooksville! The Colgate vans visit more than 1,000 cities and towns each year, reaching more than 10 million children with free dental screenings and education. They also provide an opportunity for your children to participate in a national recycling campaign.
During the BSBF van’s visit to Healthy Families Pasco-Hernando, flossing, and nutrition can help keep their teeth and gums healthy for a lifetime. The program follows strict health guidelines to ensure that each child is safe and is treated with care and sensitivity. Dental professionals are required to change gloves for each child that is screened. They will look at your child’s teeth, however no sharp instruments will be used during the examination.
Following the screening, your child will receive a dental care kit containing a personal “dental report card”, a free toothbrush, toothpaste sample and activity sheet. A list of treatment referral clinics is also included, providing families that do not have a dentist with suggestions as to where they can take their children for follow-up treatment.
This year, the Colgate BSBF vans will also collect oral care waste. On the day of the van visit, there will be a collection box where your child can discard toothpaste tubes and caps, toothbrushes, toothpaste and toothbrush outer packaging, and floss containers. The waste materials will be sent to TerraCycle®, an international recycling company that specializes in recycling waste into innovative consumer products.
To take advantage of the BSBF van’s visit, your child MUST return the attached consent form signed by a parent or guardian by March 29, 2018. Forms will be collected by your Resource Mom or contact the Supervisor at 352-999-1281.
